While some people really enjoy living on their own, sharing a house can give you some great benefits that you wouldn’t get living by yourself. These 5 advantages should convince you to give flat sharing a try.
Sharing a house or flat means you can have as much or as little company as you’d like. If you want some alone time you can retreat to your room, but if you want some company you can head to the common areas of the house such as the kitchen or the living room. If you make friends with your flatmates you can enjoy movie nights, parties, dinners together and more.
There’s no way around it, sharing accommodation is cheaper than going it alone. You split the rent, utilities, and if you choose to you can even split the costs of food shops making all around living cheaper. If you really do prefer to live on your own, flat shares can be a great way to start saving for your own place to rent or even to save a deposit to buy your own place.
When there’s more than one person in the house, you can split up the chores. A great way to do this is to either agree which chores you will be responsible for at all times, or create a weekly schedule of who is responsible for doing what. Like cooking? Getting everyone to pitch in for dinners is fun and makes it easy when you don’t have to do everything yourself.
When you live with more people, the higher the chance that your home will never be left empty. Not to mention when you’re gone for an extended period of time there’s someone there in case anything goes wrong. Living with others is a good option for people with nervous dispositions who feel unsafe or uncomfortable when home alone but may not have a partner, friends or family to live with.
Whether it’s to put some new furniture together, suggestions on a good restaurant to eat at, or things to do in the area if you are new, flatmates can be a great source of help and information. Living in a house share can be particularly great if you are new to an area and don’t know many people.
